1.Where we stand
The DPA applies the UK International Data Transfer Addendum so that transfers from the UK to India and onward have a valid mechanism. We act as a processor for customer workspace data.
2.Data protection and marketing
| Law | What it requires | How it is handled |
|---|---|---|
| UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 | Same core principles as the EU GDPR, with the ICO as regulator. The 2025 Act adds recognised legitimate interests and relaxes some automated decision rules. | DPA terms and transfer addendum. |
| Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) | Consent for marketing emails and texts (soft opt-in for existing customers); live marketing calls must not go to numbers on the TPS or CTPS or to people who objected; caller ID must be shown. | Our Messaging and Calling compliance pages tell customers to apply these checks. |
| Ofcom General Conditions | Apply to communications providers, including emergency call access (999 and 112) and caller line identification. | Handled through licensed carriers; see the Emergency calling notice. |
3.Call recording
Businesses may record calls without consent to prove a transaction, comply with rules, prevent crime, or monitor quality, provided they take reasonable steps to tell callers. UK GDPR still requires a lawful basis, a notice, and limited retention. Recording for other purposes needs consent.
4.AI agents
The UK has no horizontal AI act. The ICO expects transparency about automated processing, and UK GDPR limits solely automated decisions that have legal or similar effects. Regulators and consumer law (misleading practices) expect callers not to be misled into thinking an AI is a person. Our AI agents terms require disclosure and a human option for the UK as well.
This page is a general summary of how Callfora approaches the law in this region. It is not legal advice, laws change, and your obligations depend on your own facts. Ask your counsel before relying on it.
